Interior Design

In 1953 Robert Goossens meets Gabrielle Chanel, who will encourage him to create his first decorative objects: a trio of lions in gilded bronze holding a rock crystal globe, followed by a Water lily pedestal table and a table with a Wheatsheaf as its base, these have become some of the emblematic creations by Goossens.

By entering the world of decorative arts, Goossens demonstrated his ability to move from the relatively small scale of jewellery to that of furniture and objet d’art all while using the same materials (metal gilded with gold and rock crystals) as well as the same tools and techniques.

Goossens Gallery

Inaugurated in September 2020, the GALERIE GOOSSENS is the first space to be entirely dedicated to the decorative arts creations made by the eponymous house. Located at 20 rue Cambon, not far from its jewellery shop, the GALERIE GOOSSENS is both boutique and showroom, welcoming individual clients and professionals.

Partnership with Maison Rapin

“During our weekly lunches, Robert Goossens would tell me new anecdotes about his work and his inspirations with such passion. I’d look forward to these moments, I loved these stories, even the ones I’d already heard. We both came from a classical background and we would spend hours discussing the technicalities of the great masters of past centuries, and in particular the artistic creations of 1850 to 1950 that inspired him in the creation of his own universe.” Philippe Rapin.

Antique dealer, gallery owner and designer, Philippe Rapin founded Maison Rapin in 1978. Today this passionate expert of the decorative arts has two Parisian galleries on the Rive Gauche at 25 Quai Voltaire and at 3 rue de Beaune.

His long-standing friendship with Robert Goossens, whose talent and “perfect eye” he so admired, along with the hours spent going back through the ages in his company, allowed Philippe Rapin to become an expert in his work.

“I want you to be my dealer! That was how Robert Goossens asked me to present his creations in my gallery and at the major international antiques and design fairs. I was delighted! I wouldn’t have dared ask him myself!” Philippe Rapin

The coming together of Philippe Rapin and the GOOSSENS company, founded on a mutual passion for Robert Goossens’ work and legacy, has today allowed for the opening of the GALERIE GOOSSENS, and also for making the exceptional contemporary creations, developed in the spirit of Robert Goossens, shine even more brightly.
